Search Results Tab

When you click the Search button to perform a criteria or spatial search, the Results tab will display automatically.

The Results tab on the Search page displays tables of results for each record type that was returned by the search. Each table includes a Download Results button for downloading a comma-separated value (or CSV) file of the results table.

The Results tab contains one or more grids showing your search results. Results are limited to a maximum of 1,000 per grid for criteria searches and 5,000 per grid for spatial searches. These grids include controls for interacting with these results.

View: Opens the details module for the record. This button is not available for all record types.
Zoom: Zooms the map interface to the point or polygon for the record. If the record is not represented on the map, an alert will pop up saying No features found.

Note: This button is disabled for archaeological USNs if you do not have archaeological data access privileges. To apply for archaeological permissions, please complete the PDF application form and email the form with supporting documentation (if applicable) to CRISHelp@parks.ny.gov with the subject “Archaeology Permission Request.” You will need to log into CRIS with an NY.gov ID account at least once before SHPO can enable archaeological permissions for your user profile.

Download Results: Generates a downloadable CSV (Comma-Separated Values) file of the search results grid for a particular record type. You may open the CSV in a text editor or spreadsheet program. Note that if you open a CSV of USN records in Microsoft Excel, the USN number may be automatically converted to a decimal number. (For example, 08309.000060 would be rendered as 8309.00006.) To ensure that the format is correct, you may use Excel’s Text Import Wizard to specify that the USN number will be interpreted as text.

To sort a grid by a certain column, click that column’s header. An arrow icon will show whether the sort is ascending (upward arrow) or descending (downward arrow). To filter the grid, hover your cursor over a column’s header to display the three-lined menu icon. Click the menu icon to open the filter tool and enter your filter text. You can also rearrange the column order by clicking and dragging the column header.

When you click a column header in a results table, you can sort, filter, or move the column.

The following results grids are returned by criteria searches:

USNs: Any USN type searched in the Lookup or USN tabs.
Projects: Any project type searched in the Lookup, National Register, or Project tabs.
Surveys: Any survey type searched in the Lookup or Survey tabs.
Library: Any items searched in the Library tab.

Spatial searches return the following results grids. Note that not all layers that are visible in the map interface will be returned by spatial searches.

Archaeological USNs (archaeological sites; displays for archaeology users only)
Building USNs (buildings, structures, objects, and above-ground sites)
Submerged USNs (wrecks and other underwater archaeological sites; displays for archaeology users only)
Projects (consultation projects)
Archaeological Surveys (displays for archaeology users only)
Building Surveys
Archaeological Districts (archaeological district USNs; displays for archaeology users only)
Building Districts (building district USNs)
Archaeological NRs (National Register listing boundaries for archaeological sites and archaeological districts; displays for archaeology users only)
Building NRs (National Register listing boundaries for buildings, structures, objects, above-ground sites, and historic districts)
