Online Help System

Home Page

The Home page is the default page displayed after you sign into CRIS. At the top of the page is a navigation bar with the following page options, as shown below.

• Home: The default page. It displays differently for guest and authenticated users.
• Submit: Options for submitting information for new and existing projects, as well as viewing initial submissions.
• Search: Options for searching the CRIS database for buildings, sites, and other cultural resources, as well as surveys and projects. You may search using text or the map.
• Communicate: Options for viewing and responding to project communications from SHPO.

Authenticated users with CRIS Trekker privileges also have a Trekker Manager option that opens the Trekker Manager application in a new browser tab.

Each of the four main pages displays independently, so you can switch between them without losing your work. For example, if you’re working on a new unrequested submission on the Submit page, you can switch to the Search page to look up a USN record. Note that if you are viewing a resource wizard or details module, which displays a window on top of the CRIS web page, you will not be able to switch to a different page until you close the resource wizard or details module.

Additional options will be in the upper right corner of the page:

• My Profile: Available to authenticated users only. Allows you to view and edit your CRIS user profile.
• Contact Us: Provides a link to the CRIS Help email address (CRISHelp@parks.ny.gov) and a list of addresses and phone numbers for New York State Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation and SHPO.
• FAQ: Opens the Frequently Asked Questions page in the CRIS Online Help System in a new tab.
• Help: Opens the CRIS Online Help System in a new tab.
• Sign Out: Ends your CRIS session and returns to the landing page. If you are an authenticated user, this link will also sign you out of your NY.gov ID account. To prevent accidental loss of your session, the system will ask you if you want to leave the page before it ends the session.

If you enter CRIS as a guest user, the guest user Home page provides a general interface allowing you to find a project and view its details or status. However, the authenticated user Home page provides a customized dashboard that links to your projects, initial submissions, and communications from SHPO.
