Introduction to CRIS Mobile Pro

CRIS Mobile Pro is a map-centric web application, that runs within a browser for simple viewing of existing features from the CRIS database (e.g., existing buildings, districts, etc.).  While it can be used for general viewing of CRIS data in any browser, one of the most important uses is that it serves as a “companion” application to Survey123 for collecting building inventory forms in the field. More specifically, it directly integrates with Survey123, allowing the user to launch Survey123 from within CRIS Mobile Pro in one of two ways:

1.Launch Survey123 with an empty Building Inventory form to capture data on a "new" building (one that does not already exist as a Building USN in the CRIS database; and,

2.Launch Survey123 with a pre-populated Building Inventory form containing the existing data fields from the CRIS database.

CRIS Mobile Pro is a responsive web application, meaning it can run in a browser on any size device at any orientation (portrait or landscape), and automatically modify how it renders to optimize the display. The image below illustrates the look of CRIS Mobile Pro on a mobile device in portrait orientation.

Launching CRIS Mobile Pro

CRIS Mobile Pro can be launched by going to the following URL from a browser on your computer/device:

https://cris.parks.ny.gov/cris-mobile-pro

CRIS Mobile Pro is an enhanced version of CRIS Mobile (available to the general public) that is specifically designed for consultants/preservation partners. Consultants and Preservation Partners are required to have an NY.GOV login and be a registered CRIS user with Trekker privileges (privileges assigned by SHPO).

To that end, CRIS Mobile Pro (and all Trekker applications) require the user to login using their NY.GOV credentials that are used for CRIS. To learn how to login to CRIS Mobile Pro (and any other Trekker application), click here.

Once the user is successfully logged in, CRIS Mobile Pro is displayed with the map display zoomed to New York State, with a panel in the upper left corner that displays the user name and requires the user to select the survey project for which they will be capturing data, as shown in the image below.

Before the user can collect building inventory form data, the user is required to select a survey project for which they will be collecting data. For further details, please see the next section: Setting the Survey Project.
