There are a variety of tools available to navigate the map, as described below:
Zooming In
There are several methods to zoom in on the map display:
•Clicking the Plus button in upper left will zoom in by factor of 2
•Using a Mobile/Touchscreen – Pinching from inside-out will zoom in
•Using a Mouse – Holding Shift while dragging a rectangle within the map display will zoom in to the extent of the rectangle
•Using a Mouse with wheel – Using the wheel control on a mouse, rolling forward provides “continuous” zoom in
Zooming Out
There are several methods to zoom out on the map display:
•Clicking the Minus button in upper left will zoom in by factor of 2
•Using Mobile/Touchscreen – Pinching from outside-in will zoom out
•Using Mouse with wheel– Using the wheel control on a mouse, rolling backward allows “continuous” zooms out
Pan/Re-center
•To pan/re-center the map, press and hold the mouse (or press down with a finger on a mobile display) and drag the map display in the desired direction
Zoom to NYS
•Clicking the NYS icon will zoom the map to the state
Zoom to “My Location”
•Clicking the Target icon zooms the map to your physical location based (e.g., GPS) displaying a symbol at location and continues to track your location (the target icon then turns into a "Stop" button
•Click the Stop button to stop tracking and clear the symbol
Overview Map
•An overview map can be displayed with shows the surrounding geographic area with a darkened rectangle that outlines the current extent of the map map display
•To display the overview map, click the small arrow icon in the lower right corner of the map
•The rectangle can be dragged in any direction, which will pan the main map display accordingly to that extent
•Clicking the expand button will temporarily make the overview map full screen allowing the user to drag the rectangle once at full screen
•To close/hide the overview map, click the arrow icon again
